  • Need some MORE WRITING TIPS for the CWA’S MARGERY ALLINGHAM SHORT MYSTERY COMPETITION, and the DEBUT DAGGER 2020 (both of which have closed for 2020). These competitions carry enormous prestige and opportunities for writers and you don’t have to be a UK resident to enter – so have a stab at them - if not this year, try for next. By way of encouragement, CWA (UK) member SHEILA LOWE shares her knowledge on writing, with more handy tips to help you get started.

  • THE 2019 JOHN HINDE AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN SCIENCE-FICTION WRITING – read about some of the Powerhouse Screenwriting Projects showcased at the inaugural industry mixer held in November at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum. 
  • Key creatives and decision-makers from across the industry were invited to meet and mix with a talented cohort of screenwriters, some with projects available for development on AWG’s prestigious PATHWAYS SHOWCASE. Check out links to the five new Showcase projects announced as the shortlist for the 2019 John Hinde Award – all with an intriguing sci-fi edge.

  • Entries for the STANTHORPE ART PRIZE 2020 are now open. This Biennial National Art Prize is open to all Australian artists and offers $50,000 in prizes (see the detailed listing for the different categories). Entries close on Monday, 16 March 2020.

  • The CREATIVE SPACES WEBSITE is a FREE TOOL that makes it easy to find space for creative purposes. It includes a searchable database, case studies, resources and a regular newsletter that allows users to source and promote venues and spaces nationwide.
  • The Australian Writers’ Guild sponsors events, festivals, awards and programs that recognise, promote, reward and celebrate the work of screen and stage writers. See who’s eligible.
  • The Brisbane City Council is seeking public event visionaries for its CREATIVE EVENTS REGISTER. If you’ve got a bright idea, register now.

  • The Australian Writers’ Guild sponsors events, festivals, awards and programs that recognise, promote, reward and celebrate the work of screen and stage writers. See who’s eligible.
  • The Brisbane City Council is seeking public event visionaries for its CREATIVE EVENTS REGISTER. If you’ve got a bright idea, register now. 
  • Playwrights from regional or remote areas may apply for travel costs to attend events and opportunities through the newly established ERIN THOMAS PLAYWRIGHT FUND. There is no deadline for applications.
  • Submit your complete screenplay with a treatment, or a comprehensive concept proposal (1–3 pages) to WriteMe Australia, a national screenwriting initiative program which aims to develop exceptional material into production-ready screenwriting to be produced by the LaRoda Films network. There is no closing date for submissions. All ideas and material exchanged between all parties constitute intellectual property that shall remain the exclusive property of the originator.

Bring your cat or dog to the YERONGA PET FAIR and take advantage of discounted microchipping, vaccinations, and flea, tick and worming treatments. There will be several animal demonstrations on the day as well as pet market stalls and entertainment.
